It stands to reason the more rain we have, the more pests like cockroaches and ants we'll see but it doesn't necessarily work in reverse! The last year has seen some of the driest conditions on record but our techs have been busier than ever.
Wondering why?
Shouldn't the ants and the cockroaches be taking a time out? Well, not really. All those years of good rain afforded ideal conditions for all the pests like ants, spiders &
cockroaches to build up their numbers. Conditions were ideal (heat and humidity) and there was plenty of food and water on offer. Now the weather has dried out all of those creepy crawlies are looking for water, like the water you use to hydrate your gardens or wash your car or the dishes! Inevitably, major pests like termites, cockroaches and ants will be drawn to your home in search of life giving water and moisture; which is why you might be having issues where previously you didn't.
What can you do?
Close off as many entry points as you can. This means using screens and weather strips
to keep pests out. Also make sure you have up to date pest control to ensure any visitors with 6 legs or more are eradicated before they have the chance to settle down and start a family.
In the case of termites which are more of a threat than ever, make sure your have had a termite inspection in at least the last 12 months. Regular inspections are essential especially if you don't have any termite protection in place!
